Q/A: My Thoughts About Ketogenic Diets

Donations to support this channel can be made here: http://ift.tt/2qOV9Va With any examination of a diet, the first thing I look at before health is it’s sustainability. In my experiments with a ketogenic diet, it was fairly simplistic too do for me to do. Typically my breakfast was a Bulletproof Coffee with 2 tbs. of butter and 2 tbs. of MCT oil, and this kept me satiated until mid afternoon. From there I usually ate a piece of meat, whether that would be salmon or chicken, with some steamed vegetables. Dinner usually consisted of like a 5-6 egg omelette with vegetables and cheese, and for a snack I’d make Bulletproof Ice cream and ate yogurt for the most part. The first week was sort of that foggy, hazy feeling because your trying to get the body to switch from burning carbs to burning fats for fuel. After this initial period though, it was easy to keep up with and I had lost a bit of weight. The only reason why I quit though was because I was losing too much weight because having a diet made up primarily of fats and protein kept me feeling full, and I felt I had to force myself to eat just to maintain my weight. Going back to my original point about sustainability, the diet works very well in our modern day. It can be somewhat tough in social situations, but this can be remedied with eating chicken salads and carrying with you a bottle of MCT oil to pour on your food like Dave Asprey! The only things that I felt to be an issue was with #1 having coffee everyday because frankly it made me shot after a couple of month and I went through a week of detoxing from all the caffiene I took in. Keep in mind though that having Bulletproof coffee isn’t a requirement too be on a ketogenic diet, it was just the simplest thing I could get my hands on in the morning that would keep me in a ketogenic state. The second thing was constipation which was primarily attributed with me running around a lot of the time, and not getting in enough fiber because there were times where I didn’t eat a lot of vegetables which was just a matter of planning. Now that was my experience, and I think that with regards towards diets in general…we shouldn’t be so dogmatic about them. What I follow now is more a cyclical diet where I go high carb some days, and other days I’m high fat. My overall health goal at the moment is too gain muscle so basically I’m eating everything in site. However, if we take the tenets of any diet and apply it too our nutrition, we all will receive favorable results. So avoid processed and refined foods, and replacing them with whole foods; making sure to get enough; participating in some form of daily activity; not over consuming food, that’s a big
